We hold our hurt not because we want the weight of it, but because we want to be seen; understood for our soft, vulnerable selves that are wounded when overlooked. When our pain is dismissed, we are told we don’t matter. Yet, our pain indicates an injury to a piece of us that needs mending.
To live in this world is to constantly be in a state of being seen and not seen,
heard and not heard, silently injured when overlooked.
Giving voice to our pain allows us to air the wound and risk our humanness. Once we have been seen, once we have been affirmed in the truth of our woundedness, we can release the burden of pain and be understood for who we are.
