Life Hurts

Life hurts and we do ourselves a disservice when we try to bypass our feelings at times that bring us to our knees. Bright-siding and always looking for the silver lining only leads to a depressed soul constantly disappointed by false messages that life is supposed to always feel good.
Living with the truth of loss and the deep pain it brings are necessary parts of being human. Everything must be grieved and we need to bow to the darkness if we are ever to revel in the joy of the light. Both are necessary and true, dancing partners in the human experience.
Honoring pain does not mean surrendering to victimhood. Our lives are not merely an accumulation of all the ways we have been wronged, but a tapestry for us to weave and craft for ourselves. We are the authors of our own stories, the writers of our songs, and we often forget that at any moment we have the power to change.
So wail your lament – the soul’s elegy to all that’s been lost – to make room in the dark for dancing. It’s always darkest before the dawn.
